For much of my life, I’ve been considered by others to be quite attractive. Yet, eliciting even a glance and a smile from an attractive woman in this city seems to be well out of reach for me. I wonder what’s happening here.
There were a number of responses, and I felt the need to respond to one in particular.

To the OP: You are not alone, my friend! This is an oft-discussed topic among me and my (male *and* female) friends and coworkers, and the consensus is that local gals are notoriously cold, and often shallow.
I, too, have always done fairly well with the ladies — I mean, I’m no George Clooney, just a decent, hilariously funny Average Joe — but in general, trying to connect with these Boston girls (the precious few who aren’t married / committed, or longing to be), if you can get them to set aside their cell phones for even a minute and make — gasp! — eye contact, is like pulling teeth.
And is there a more depressing sight than a seemingly smart, sexy, stylish girl with a slow-witted, ill-mannered, badly dressed jack—ss? Boy, that is a popular trend around here! As trendy (circa 2001) as the untucked striped shirts, jeans, and square-toed shoes those spiky-haired fellas are *still* sporting on a Saturday night. (I assume these guys have other, less visible qualitie$.)
It’s much different (better!) in New York City. Bostonians would have you believe that is the *less* friendly town, yet I’ve had far more spontaneous conversations (and more’:-) with beautiful women in “The Apple” then I ever have in “The Hub.”
Yep, it’s tough around here. Still, have hope, sir: the numerous prestigious universities in the area draw many wonderful, receptive women from other parts of the country, and the world…go get ‘em!

In my experience, it’s mostly the *men* who are shallow, so us Boston girls are pretty good at sizing up the opposite sex (we can tell if you’re disingenuous). If that means we come off as “cold and shallow”, sorry.
Oh, and before you go off and assume that I’m just some bitter chick who got beaten with the ugly stick, I’d like to state for the record that I am in no way a minger (google it) and am happily attached. But prior to said attachment, I found that if you weren’t some bimbo “woo girl”, you got very little attention from men.
In any case, maybe the problem is that you’re going after the wrong girls, or maybe you just need to grow a set and go talk to a girl rather than waiting for her to make eye contact. And for the record, truly smart girls don’t go for sailor jerry-wearing, bank statement-flaunting bros. We recognize quality.
